Welcome!
Welcome to Broken Boots! I’m Virginia from Virginia, living in Colombia, visiting who-knows-where next week. I’m happy you’re here!
I’ve had a desire to see the world for as long as I can remember, born out of a love for people. Upon traveling internationally on my own for the first time in Latin America in 2018 I was immediately hooked. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to get to know as much of the world as I can, and most importantly, the people in it.
Broken Boots is a travel blog where I can share that passion with the world. This blog has gone through many phases in the past— there was the post-grad-Southeast-Asia-backpacking-trip era, there was the living in Dubai era, and at present, there’s the exploring Colombia on a motorcycle era. Think of it like a public record of my quarter-life-crisis.

My Travel Inspiration
As a little girl, my grandpa was my biggest travel inspiration. He had a gift for connecting with people and traveled the world his whole life taking photos and making friends, many of whom he continued to stay in touch with up until his death in 2021. His last wish for me was to help him fill up his map, so that’s what I plan to do.
Virginia? Ginna?
You may see me referred to as “Ginna,” and other times “Virginia.” Either is right — they’re both me! Virginia is my given name, but my family has called me Ginna (pronounced like the alcohol) for as long as I can remember. I’ve been using Ginna more frequently in recent years, but I’ll still always be Virginia from Virginia.
Life in Dubai
A lot of you may have found me during my time living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I lived in the Emirates with my partner for a year and a half and during that time found a passion for sharing my life as en expat in the Middle East and the diverse stories of the UAE — beyond the Burj Khalifa. Or maybe you know me as the gringa riding all around Colombia on her tiny motorcycle! I moved to Colombia with my partner in 2023 and have since made it my mission to visit every department in the country.
