At long last, the first episode of my “32 Departments of Colombia” series is finally live! This project has been a long time in the making and it feels surreal to finally begin sharing what I’ve been working on.
Boyacá is department located in Colombia’s central Andean region. It’s home to the highest (and coldest!) city in the country, it’s capital of Tunja, but is also home to one of Colombia’s most beloved Christmas traditions — La Ruta Navideña!
Now it didn’t take long living in Colombia to realize that Christmas here is a big deal. Like, deck the halls and grab your aguardiente kind of big deal. So I figured, what better way to kick off this series than with a Christmas Special, Colombian style?
Now Boyancenses aren’t just proud of their Christmas traditions. It seems each pueblo in this department has something to be proud of, and they don’t hesitate to share it with you! Add in the country’s most beautiful páramo, pre-columbian legends, and the birthplace of Colombian independence, and there’s plenty to explore. Not to mention, plenty of buñelos to eat.
So grab a snack and enjoy episode one! What department should I visit next?

Great work you’re doing! Love your video on the carnival in Barranquilla. I started going to BAQ in 2004. I married a Costena from BAQ and we’ve been happily married now since 2005. I commend you for doing what I consider to be one of the best formats out there on You tube. Great job interviewing, filming, editing, providing useful information about Barranqulla. You nailed it! We plan to watch all of the videos that you are doing on the 32 departments. Thank you. Safe travel!
Hi Anthony! It’s so great to meet you, I’m so glad you loved the Barranquilla video! The city totally took me by surprise in the best way, and I can’t wait to go back for Carnival 2025. Thanks for sticking around for the rest of the journey, there’s so much to see in Colombia! 🙂
